Avadhanam and Mathematics Exhibition
On 29th of July, 2017, Saturday, Whitefield Global School hosted its first exhibition of the year 2017-18, Semantica- an integration of the maths exhibition by the sixth graders and bilingual language exhibition, Lingua Franca by the fifths. The sixth graders exhibited an integration of mathematics with the world around us. However, the midas touch to the exhibition was given by the Avadhanam, a special kind of verbal exhibition by the ten year old kids of grade five. Avadhanam is a special way of assessing a scholar, devised by the Vedic Pandits. In this assessment a person is asked several questions from various fields at random, one after another and the concernec person must attend to all the questions. The person who does this amazing feat is called Avadhani. The Avadhani must have a wonderful memory power and a keen sense of humour. When the Avadhani faces eight questions it is called Ashtavadhanam. This marvellous task was actually done by scholars aged between fifty to sixty years. However, probably for the first time in India this wonderful feat is done by ten year old little children. The little Avadhanis and questioners of grade five showed immense dedication in making this stupendous job a success. The fervour and enthusiasm among the children and their parents were noteworthy.
