In connection with the Independence Day celebration, Mock UN was conducted in the school to educate students about the formation of UNO, role of India in UNO and functioning of UN Security Council which is an important organ of the United Nations Organisations. The whole aim of the programme was to make students aware of diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations. The programme involved public speaking, debating, critical thinking, team work and leadership activities.
It was an attempt to showcase the world before the First World War and the Second World War, and how an attempt was made to establish world peace with the help of world organisation called UNO.
Students of class VII and VIII took up roles of various famous personalities like, Otto Van Bismarck, Adolf Hitler, Winston Churchill, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Narendra Modi, Vijayalaxmi Pandit, Indra Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor etc. Students delivered speeches of these leaders. Power point presentations on Second World War, United Nations formation and videos of atomic bombing on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were shown. A small enactment on the reason behind the failure of League of Nations created enthusiasm among the audience. Gandhi’s letter to Hitler and Churchill was read out by the students which cleared the stand India took in the whole issue.
The whole programme ended with a small skit by the students on the functioning of Security Council of the UNO. The topic of discussion was terrorism and current issues.
It was a venture of the Social Science department under the guidance of Ms. Shivani Prabhu( Quality head), Ms. Shyamala and Ms. Lipi. The programme was performed in front of the Academic Director of the school, Sarada Chandrasekaran , parents, teachers and the students. It was indeed an opportunity to know and experience the functioning of UNO.
