The Indian Institute of Astrophysics, with its headquarters in Bangalore, is a premier National Research Institute of India. IIA conducts research primarily in the areas of astronomy, astrophysics and related subjects. As a wonderfully planned school trip, the students of grade XII visited the campus on 14th November, 2018. One of the first students were shown was a model that helped them to see the image of the sun. Next, they moved to several presentations brought to them by the students of IIA. The students learnt about the different types of telescopes which scientists use to experiment with, different types of satellites launched in space and the different courses that Astrophysics offers. Towards the end of the trip, They were made aware of the recent discoveries in the field of gravitational waves through a PPT and knowledgeable lectures.
Overall, the day was well spent asthey were enlightened by not just one but many mesmerising topics.
