The Psychology students from Grade 12 went for a field visit to the Aarambh Foundation on the 13th of September 2023. The main objective of this study trip was to help the students develop a case profile primarily involving use of the qualitative techniques of data collection.
Aarambh Foundation is a special school catering to children and young adults with many diverse needs such as, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Learning Disability and other communication disorders. The field study visit provided a valuable learning experience for the students where they got the chance to observe, interact and gain insight into the lives of children with diverse special needs.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by the school staff, including the Director and the teachers. An orientation session provided an overview of the school’s history, mission and the specific needs of the students they cater to. This helped set the context for the visit. The students after the orientation had the opportunity for one-on-one interaction with the special needs children to build personal connections, enabling the students to better understand the daily challenges and triumphs experienced by the children.
The field visit to the Aarambh Foundation was highly enriching and educational for the psychology students, which helped them bridge the gap between theory and real-life practice.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Aarambh Foundation, the staff, and the students for their warm welcome and willingness to share their knowledge and experience with us. The visit has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on our students, shaping them into more compassionate and informed future psychologists.
