Excursion is a metaphor for travelling, visiting amazing places and having a lot of fun and the students of grade 9 -12 were not let down by their recent trip to Halebidu, Belur and Sravanbelagola. Someone has rightly said that a journey is not about reaching a place, but travelling to it. Though the children spent most of their time travelling, not a second of it was a waste. The journey was punctuated by music, dance and fun.
The trip started by leaving the school at around 5:30 AM and the first stop was for breakfast at Kamat Upchar at around 8:30 AM. The students then visited the Halebidu temple at around eleven and the Belur temple shortly afterwards . These temples left a large impression on them and totally changed their perception that temples are only a holy place of worship as these temples had an architecture that was totally astounding. Furthermore, these temples were enriched to every corner with amazing stone engravings that depicted scenes of various mythological events. These engravings were so richly carved that we every unique expression on every unique face was visible as though even the statues had their own identity. The Ashok in Hassan was the destination for a sumptuous lunch. The next stop was Sravanbelagola which was reached at around 5 pm and it was definitely the star of the show. The 700 step climb was exhausting, but it was worth it. The majestic statue of Bahubali and the view from over the hill was indescribable. The trip back to school was equally enjoyable. The students reached school at around 10:30 pm. Although everyone was tired, the spirits were still high.
The trip was indeed an enjoyable anda memorable one. The students not only enjoyed with their friends but alsoenriched their knowledge about our rich cultural heritage. Such trips teachchildren many important values which help them develop their personality
