'On August 12, 2024, Whitefield Global School had the privilege of hosting Mr. Vasudevan Natarajan, a distinguished expert in Coding, Curriculum & Assessment Creation, and Technology Integration, for an enlightening expert talk on "Promotion of Safe Uses of the Internet, Gadgets, and Media." This engaging session was designed to equip students from Grades 1 to 10 with the essential knowledge and practical strategies needed for responsible and safe digital interactions.'
Primary Segment (Grades 1 to 2): In this segment, Mr. Natarajan introduced the younger students to the concept of "Impact of Screen Time." Through a combination of videos and simple guidelines, he illustrated both the benefits of screen time, such as educational opportunities and social interaction, and its potential drawbacks, including eye strain and physical inactivity. He emphasized the importance of balancing screen time with outdoor play, reading, and other social activities. Practical tips on setting time limits and utilizing parental controls were also provided to help children manage their screen exposure effectively. Upper Primary (Grades 4 to 5): For Grades 4 and 5, the focus shifted to "Basic Online Safety." Mr. Natarajan covered crucial aspects like creating strong passwords, recognizing phishing scams, and the significance of maintaining a positive digital footprint. The session addressed the risks of oversharing and cyberbullying, and included interactive elements such as a game to reinforce online safety rules. Students were engaged with relatable examples and videos, which helped them understand the importance of safe internet practices in an engaging manner. Middle Segment (Grades 6 to 8): In the middle school segment, the topic of "Cyberbullying and Cyber Safety" was explored. Mr. Natarajan emphasized the importance of protecting personal information, using privacy settings effectively, and the safe practices in online gaming. The students learned about the effects of cyberbullying and strategies for both preventing and reporting such behavior. Senior Segment (Grades 9 to 10): The senior students benefited from a session on "Social Networking & Cyber Etiquette." Mr. Natarajan focused on the importance of responsible behavior in the digital world and the long-term impact of online actions. Key topics included maintaining respectful interactions on social media, managing digital footprints, and balancing social media use with personal well-being.
