'Empowering Digital Citizens: July's School Health & Wellness Student Talks'
In July, Whitefield Global School hosted an impactful Student Talk Assembly focused on the theme "Promotion of Safe Uses of the Internet, Gadgets, and Media." The series of talks, delivered by students from grades 1 to 10, aimed to educate and empower young minds about the importance of developing healthy screen habits and ensuring online safety.
Grade 1: Balancing Screen Time with Real Life On July 18, 2024, Grade 1 students B. Utkarsh and Sukrith Khandual took the stage to deliver their speech, "Play More, Screen Less: Balancing Screen Time with Real-Life." Their message was clear: while screens are a part of modern life, it’s crucial to balance screen time with real-world activities. They encouraged their peers to engage in outdoor play, arts, and crafts, emphasizing that these activities contribute to better cognitive health and overall well-being. Their speech was a call to action for reducing screen time during meals and prioritizing real-life experiences. Grade 4: Addressing Cyberbullying On July 12, 2024, in the Upper Primary Segment, Grade 4 students Sonswapn and Virath presented a joint speech titled "Think Before You Post: Recognizing Cyberbullying and Its Safety Measures." They defined cyberbullying, detailed its emotional impact, and discussed signs such as hurtful messages and exclusion from online groups. Their talk effectively raised awareness about online safety and encouraged respectful online behavior, providing practical advice on how to prevent and address cyberbullying. Grade 7: Promoting Cyber Safety and Kindness On July 8, 2024, Siddhid Nag from Grade 7 Light delivered an insightful talk titled "Together for a Safer Internet: Practice Cyber Safety and Spread Kindness." Siddhid emphasized the need for collaboration to create a safer online environment, highlighting the importance of standing against cyberbullying and supporting others. By sharing personal anecdotes and practical tips, Siddhid promoted a culture of kindness and empathy online, encouraging students to contribute positively to their digital communities. Grade 9: Navigating Social Media Safely On July 9, 2024, Alna Sreekanth from Grade 9 Earth presented "Navigating the Social Media Maze: Understanding the Risks and Ensuring Safety." Alna addressed the allure of social media for connection and sharing but stressed the importance of safeguarding personal information and avoiding oversharing. She discussed the pressures of maintaining a perfect online presence and the need for a balance between social media use and offline activities.
