On 11th September 2018, the students of gradeIX and X participated in a stand-up comedy event as part of CCA in the school.Stand-up comedy is a comic style in which a comedian performs in front of alive audience, usually speaking directly to them. The topic given to theparticipants was ‘Modern Life’. Their goal was to express their views andexperiences relating to the theme ‘modern life’ and at the same time, puttingforth their thoughts in a humorous manner so as to capture the attention of their audience. At its best,Stand-up comedy is the purest and most immediate medium for comedy and possiblyeven self expression. All the participants gave their best shot at making theaudience laugh using a constant outlet of original thoughts. But the jokes,although important, are not in themselves enough. The speaker needs to appearrelaxed and confident, control the room, think on their feet, involve theaudience without letting them to lose focus and be able to adapt their styleand material to dozens of different difficult scenarios. All these was done bythe participants proactively and that was a key to their success. All theparticipants gave it their all and broadly, all of them did a fabulous job.Every performance was followed by a round of applause and this was proof enoughto conclude that the event was a great success
